Dr. Denver Travels to Africa with Rabies Free Africa

In June, Dr. Denver had the opportunity to travel to Africa with Rabies Free Africa, where she worked alongside fellow veterinary professionals to vaccinate dogs, learn more about local public health challenges, and witness the direct impact these efforts have on both animals and the communities they serve.

As a proud partner of Rabies Free Africa, our hospital has raised $2,309 to support this lifesaving initiative, thanks to the generosity of our clients. For every rabies vaccine administered at our hospital, $1 is donated to Rabies Free Africa, helping provide vaccines, education, and resources to communities where rabies remains a significant public health concern.

Dr. Denver's Experience

Participating in the Rabies Free Africa trip gave Dr. Denver the opportunity to see firsthand how vaccination programs are improving the health of both animals and people. Working alongside fellow veterinary professionals, she experienced the impact that collaboration, education, and preventive care can have in communities where rabies remains a serious public health concern.

Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Denver shared, "We vaccinated over 1,400 dogs and cats on our trip. It was incredibly rewarding to know that we were helping to save lives, both human and animal. The smiles on the owners' faces were priceless."

The experience reinforced the importance of rabies prevention and the meaningful difference that veterinary professionals can make through global outreach. Dr. Denver was honored to represent Basin Run Animal Hospital and contribute to Rabies Free Africa's mission of eliminating rabies through lifesaving vaccination efforts.

Why This Work Matters

Rabies is a preventable disease that continues to claim thousands of lives each year, particularly in areas where access to vaccines is limited.

• An estimated 60,000 people die from rabies annually.

• Approximately 99% of human rabies cases occur in Africa and Asia.

• Nearly half of those affected are children under the age of 16.

• Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is 100% preventable through vaccination.

Through mass vaccination campaigns, education, and community outreach, Rabies Free Africa is making a lasting impact. The organization has administered more than 2.5 million rabies vaccines, helping save countless lives and bringing communities closer to a future free of canine-mediated rabies.
